oil on masonite: 18 x 21 5/8 inches

Francois Gall, Hungarian by birth, became an Impressionist painter in the pure French tradition after he moved to Paris. He first studied in Rome and then returned home to teach. In 1936, he enrolled in the l’Ecole Nationale de Beaux-Arts in Paris . Once exposed to the light and color of the Impressionists, he was forever changed as an artist. In Paris, he was a student of Devambez at the National Academy of Fine Arts. Francois Gall greatly admired the earlier generation Impressionists and he adopted their concepts for his own interpretations.
