Meiji period (1868 - 1912) painting of a basket with beautifully arranged spring flowers in the style of ikebana (Japanese traditional flower arranging). Lovely use of negative space and composition. Mineral pigments painted on mulberry paper with a gold leaf ground, silk brocade border and lacquer frame.
