Description
Very large Louis XV style gilt bronze lantern
French, 20th Century
Height 160cm, diameter 62cm
This magnificent lantern is crafted from gilt bronze in a wonderfully ornate decorative style. The lantern features a lightbox comprised of four curved panes of glass, each pane frosted but for a clear border around its edge. The gilt bronze frame of the lantern features a tent-form canopy supported by a floral crown. Strikingly, the top of the lightbox of the lantern is mounted with four soldier-form finials, below each of which is set a grotesque mask. The lantern is appended below with an ornate drop finial and a series of scrolling foliate brackets. - More Information
