Description
Louis XVI style French gilt bronze and marble pedestal
French, early 20th Century
Height 114cm, width 31cm, depth 28cm
This refined pedestal is crafted from sumptuous materials and has an elegant and unusual shape. It could be used a standalone piece but would also make the perfect stand upon which to display a vase, urn, sculpture or other decorative object.
The pedestal is of tapered, square form and features a luxurious yet simultaneously neutral colour palette of white, veined marble mounted with gilt bronze. Central to the design is a frontal gilt bronze mount of a putto holding a scroll and a musical instrument, standing mystically upon a floating platform. There are further gilt bronze mounts around the top and base, and a pair of flanking caryatids of putti to the front edges, either side of the central putto. - More Information
