Eames Soft-Pad Lounge Chair in Leather by Charles & Ray Eames for Herman Miller
-
Description
The great portfolio of Charles & Ray Eames is widely celebrated and serves as a model of inspiration for designers to this day. One of their most recognizable designs is the Aluminum Group line from which this Soft Pad Lounge Chair was born. It is said that the Soft Pad derivative was a design accident - cushions from the Eames Chaise found themselves draped over an Aluminum Group chair, and the rest is history. Whatever the story may be, the comfort of Charles & Ray’s Soft Pad seating perhaps rivals that of their famed Eames Lounge Chair.
The Soft Pad collection consists of Management & Executive Chairs and this Lounge Chair. The design language is similar to the Eames Aluminum Group suite which sports a single “sling” of material which is tethered to two cast aluminum side rails and in this case, five plush cushions for optimal comfort. Included is the matching Soft Pad Ottoman which is generous enough in size to stand alone in the room as its own seat. This Lounge Chair is equipped with swivel and tilt with a tension control knob.
This Eames Soft Pad Lounge Chair & Ottoman is shown in its original leather in the color Black. This original chair is in very good condition and show minor wear and rich patina consistent with age and history. Listed dimensions include ottoman when placed in front of the lounge chair. -

Stories exist in many forms, we see them in objects. The aesthetic of those before us is passed down through their surviving creations. These are the objects we search for; to preserve, refine, & continue the story. Object Refinery combines design obsession, fine craftsmanship, and a love for history in our worldwide search for objects. Based in Connecticut, USA; we partner with a network of local artisans to restore and refine our findings before passing them on to the next collector.
