Description
Belle Époque period gilt bronze and enamel clock set
French, late 19th Century
Clock: Height 46cm, width 23cm, depth 15cm
Vases: Height 29cm, diameter 11.5cm
Candlesticks: Height 26.5cm, diameter 10cm
This superb clock set comprises a mantel clock, a pair of conforming candlesticks, and a matched pair of decorative glass vases. The set is crafted in an eclectic, Baroque inspired style from gilt bronze and champlevé enamel.
The mantel clock is architecturally formed, its shaped articulated by gilt bronze borders. The gilt bronze throughout is wrought in a decidedly Baroque manner—such as the putti like figures standing to the two front corners. The clock case is profusely adorned with champlevé enamel, with blues of various shades predominating. The clock is topped by a domed, roof-form top, raised on four scrolled foliate feet, and inset to the front with a champlevé enamel decorated dial inscribed with Roman numeral hour marks.
The pair of candlesticks is similarly decorated, each adorned with champlevé enamel and featuring a putto form stem. The pair of vases, too, conform to the style of the group, each being profusely finished with enamel and featuring a putto stem. Each vase includes a large etched glass flute. -
