Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin Swivel Chairs in Mohair, Pair

Sold Sold
  • Description
The name Milo Baughman is synonymous with everything Mid-Century Modern design. His portfolio of work is far greater than most of his contemporaries, spanning across centuries of his life and for a multitude of furniture manufacturers. Perhaps one of his most well known manufacturing relationships was one with the renown Thayer Coggin, a marriage from which these swivel chairs were born.

Baughman could very well be known as the father of the swivel chair. While he most certainly did not invent the idea of a swivel club chair, he most certainly perfected what one should be. His swivel chairs for Thayer Coggin are most iconic due to their simplicity and careful overall proportions; a quality Baughman mastered in his time which is long lost in today’s furniture design.

We’ve restored these chairs down to their frames with new foam and padding in addition to new upholstery. Our team selected a luxurious Angora Mohair in the color Midnight which contrasts handsomely with their original walnut bases. We’ve retained most of Baughman’s signature details such as the curvaceous piping and delicate button tufts while refining the design by eliminating seams with the use of a single piece of mohair on both the chairs’ interior and exterior. The combination of Midnight and Walnut creates a timeless look which allows for these swivel chairs to be placed in absolutely any environment.
