Description
Probably one of the most beautiful batik textile designs from Indonesia, the wraparound skirt also known as Kain Panjang was an iconic design from Cirebon, North Coast of Java. The Cloud design is called Megamendung in local language and it demands a lengthy process of hand-drawing, waxing dying and re-dying until the right colors were achieved.
A similar piece can be found in the textile collection of Dallas Museum of Art 1991.58 -
