Russian Impressionist painting of a meadow by Zhukovsky
Russian, 1938
Frame: Height 68cm, width 67.5cm, depth 4cm
Canvas: Height 48cm, width 48cm, depth 0.5cm
This beautiful oil on canvas painting by the Polish-Russian artist Stanislav Yulianovich Zhukovsky depicts a summer meadow in full bloom beneath a bright blue sky populated with scattered summertime clouds. The meadow, bounded by woodland and divided by a small stream, is an abundance of colour, from greens and yellows to reds and pinks. The work is painted in an impressionistic manner, with strokes of pure pigment employed to render a tactile surface. The painting is signed and dated 'S. Zukowski / 1938' lower left, situated 'Pobojka' lower right, and contained within a white carved wood frame.
