Description
Emile Deckers ( Belgian, 1885 –1968) An Orientalist Portrait Painting of An Algerian Woman, circa 1950.
Realistically painted, depicting an Algerian woman in traditional clothing and head garb, in the original Islamic carved Arabic calligraphy gilt-wood frame.
Signed lower right "EDeckers/Alger, 1951
Canvas: 22" high x 15" wide
Frame: 27" high x 21" wide
Good condition, no damages noted, ready to hang.
Émile Deckers was born in Belgium on 9 January 1885. He received his art education at the Académie royale des beaux-arts in Liège. He was the recipient of many art prizes before the outbreak of the first world war. In 1921 he moved to Algiers, where he became an Orientalist painter where he rapidly achieved a high level of popularity for his portraits. He executed many portraits of Algerian women.His portraits of Arab people are thought to be very authentic - More Information
