Description
The Flotilla ceiling fixture; a playful piece of functional sculpture inspired by the "Flotilla" fabric designed by Lucienne Day, 1952. This fixtures works especially well over a dining table, bar, or kitchen island.
A note on the design: Blueprint lighting's Chief Luminary, Kelly Aaron, opened her first Mid-Century Modern design store in 1999 and became a respected young voice in mid-century design, Studio Pottery and modern craft; guest-curating museum exhibitions, contributing to arts texts and giving gallery talks. Around this time, her extreme adoration of Lucienne Day's textile designs began; Kelly spent time tracking down bits of vintage Lucienne Day barkcloth to fabricate pillows in the back of her retail shop. Per Kelly, "Our Flotilla fixture does in fact look like a darling little fleet of colorful ships and was inspired by Day's "Flotila" upholstery fabric from 1952 --I wanted to emulate her style in three dimensions."
All shades are on pivoting joints to allow for positioning of light. Mounts to ceiling with two (2) drops rods and ceiling canopies, with wiring come out of only one of the rods/canopies.
Fabricated in brass and shown in our hand-finished Brushed Brass, but may be made in any of our 6 in-house metal finishes or 36 in-house enamel colors (all shown in final images). Enamel colors shown are Ginger, Flax, Crema, Mannequin and Terracotta. Shade color(s) may be specified.
Blown glass globes are 4" diameter and are threaded to screw easily around the socket.
