Description
2 Volumes, Thomas Archer, Pictures and Royal Portraits Illustrative of English and Scottish History. Bound in the publisher's pezux binding in full red morocco with the covers displaying incredibly ornate and detailed gilt and open tooling depicting 8 crests around the borders and one larger central crest as well as many small bordering and central decorative details. The spines display raised bands, crests, ornate panel detailing, bordering, and label lettering, all gilt or open-tooled. All go the edges are gilded with gilt-tooled turn-ins and marbled endpapers. This history includes the introduction of Christianity to the present time of publication. There are 69 engraved plates from important works by distinguished modern painters, and from authentic state portraits. Includes descriptive historical sketches by Thomas Archer. Published by Blackie & Son in London, Glasgow, and Edinburgh, 1883.
