Description
Sergio Rodrigues set the standard for modern furniture in Brazil during the 1950s. His works have become a reference for Brazilian design, which often use indigenous wood species such as jacaranda and Imbuia. Probably his best known design is the “Mole”, or Soft Chair also known as the Sheriff chair: Our version originates from the 1960s. This chair has been completely refinished and newly upholstered in a soft black leather supported by new leather straps.
The Sheriff chair immediately catches attention due to its loose structure of leather straps supporting several oversize cushions. It is incredibly comfortable, and invites for a long, casual seat. We have another chair just like this in a lighter wood without an ottoman. Contact us for details.
Dimensions: L 36 x 38 W x 28.5 H
We have restored this chair to excellent vintage condition. We have restored the wood and reupholstered in a soft Italian leather with down filling. We restore and upholster to very high standards, following the original pattern of the leather. We have also replaced the straps. This ensures that the piece holds it value but also will be a great and comfortable chair for years to come.
Rodrigues has also worked closely with Oscar Niemeyer, as the latter's interior designer of choice for his buildings in Brasilia. The result of Rodrigues's relentless search for contemporary Brazilian design has led to a very peculiar design language. That of a robust, personal and pure language. Yet what is important is that Rodrigues never really let go of the tradition of Brazilian design either, using local wood as jacaranda. His design is therefore seen as the true expression of Brazilian spirit: warm, happy, sturdy and robust.
This chair has such a strong presence in a room. It can stand alone or in almost every design style. This is a chair that begs you to collapse into it, the leather is so inviting and plump. It is like a hammock in a lush Brazilian jungle. -
