Description
The iconic Poul Kjærholm PK61A Coffee Table is one of the purest expressions of Danish modern minimalism—an elegant balance of industrial precision and sculptural restraint. Designed in 1956 by legendary Danish designer Poul Kjærholm for E. Kold Christensen and later produced by Fritz Hansen, the PK61A remains one of the most celebrated glass coffee tables of the 20th century.
This example features Kjærholm’s signature satin-finished steel frame paired with a thick floating glass top, creating a striking visual lightness while maintaining exceptional structural integrity. The precision-engineered steel base reflects Kjærholm’s background as a trained cabinetmaker and his lifelong fascination with combining steel’s strength with refined architectural form.
Unlike many glass tables of the period, the PK61A feels neither decorative nor delicate—it is confident, understated, and timeless. The intersecting steel frame creates a sculptural foundation that appears almost weightless beneath the substantial glass top, allowing the beauty of surrounding furnishings to remain fully visible.
Perfect in both minimalist interiors and richly layered modern spaces, the PK61A works effortlessly alongside icons by Hans J. Wegner, Finn Juhl, and Arne Jacobsen. It is a table that does not compete—it elevates.
At Hobbs Modern, we carefully source and restore exceptional examples of Poul Kjærholm’s work, preserving the integrity and craftsmanship that make these pieces enduring investments in design history. The PK61A is not simply a coffee table—it is one of the defining masterpieces of Scandinavian modernism. -
