French, Modern Neoclassical Plaster Chandelier in the Style of Diego Giacometti
-
Description
Elegant and iconic French Modern Neoclassical chandelier in the style of Alberto and Diego Giacometti. The form is sublime. It is composed of a cylindrical iron base from which 8 torch lights are suspended and united around a cross form stretcher. Plaster and gesso have been applied by hand around the structure to give it a natural, organic texture. The chandelier reflects a refined elegance with pure, cylindrical form and soft white, ethereal texture. The Giacometti's worked in the present moment but were always connected to the ancient Etruscan past. Many of their pieces reflect ancient forms and themes. This piece possesses a rare sensibility: it possesses a unique, handmade quality utilizing soft, primitivist like forms which unite it with the sculpture and poetry of ancient generations. And, it's just a fabulous welcoming ceiling light for any room.
Additional References: Mid-Century Modern, Jean Michel Frank.
Please note: a round gessoed rod connects the piece to the ceiling and additional chain is supplied to allow greater height. The piece takes 8 candelabra bulbs. 8 shades are also available. -
