A Haroma, Saarinen, and Salo Design Collaboration Daybed, Finland 1960s
-
Description
This daybed is a masterpiece of the artistic collaboration between architect Tauno Haroma, master builder Pentti Saarinen and architect Ilkka Salo. The design of this one-off, exquisite piece of furniture is a harmonious blend of architectural vision, craftsmanship, and the traditions rooted in Finnish mid-century design.
This outstanding piece has a streamlined, elegant look achieved by the architectural precision put into its design, and by the choice of quality materials. The top is divided into three parts that section the daybed visually, providing plenty of lounging surface. Collaboration has always played a pivotal role in the creation of enduring masterpieces, and this daybed is no exception. Architect Tauno Haroma, renowned for his innovative approach to spatial design, lent his creative insight to the project, while master builder, Pentti Saarinen, with his decades of experience in woodworking, brought to life Haroma’s and Ilkka Salo's vision with impeccable craftsmanship. Architect Ilkka Salo, known for his appreciation of natural materials, ensured that the choice of Douglas fir was not only aesthetically pleasing but also sustainable and environmentally conscious. Douglas fir is a remarkable wood known for its strength, durability, and exquisite grain patterns. Its warm hue and distinct grain provide a sense of natural elegance, making it a perfect choice for furniture that blends seamlessly with both modern and traditional interiors. The inherently modern aesthetic is quite literally topped by a long cylindrical pillow with rouched sides that accentuates all other shapes such as the straight edges and square legs that support the body. The stylish linen upholstery adds an additional layer of interest and depth to the design.
In today's design landscape, daybeds have once again gained immense popularity. They offer a versatile and stylish solution for both relaxation and seating in homes and commercial spaces. This Finnish daybed serves as a functional piece of furniture that can effortlessly transform any space into a cosy and immensely stylish retreat.
