Pair of Leather and Wood Armchairs by Fredrik Kayser (Attr.), Norway ca 1960s

$ 7,363
  • Description
    Though their country has a long tradition of craftsmanship, only a handful of mid-century Norwegian designers gained the same international renown as their peers in neighbouring countries. Fredrik Kayser was one such designer who’s work became well known and well loved. As these gorgeous chairs show, when modernism reached Norway, exceptional pieces were created.

    Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this pair of chairs exudes both elemental modern elegance and comfort, making them a timeless and stylish addition to any interior space. The sleek wooden frames offer a striking contrast to the supple black leather upholstery, creating a visually captivating aesthetic. The juxtaposition of these materials creates a striking contrast. Together, they make for a harmonious balance between contemporary elegance and traditional style. The individual square black leather cushions fit snugly within the frames, creating clean lines and a sense of cohesion. This meticulous integration not only enhances the chairs’ visual appeal but also ensures a comfortable and supportive seating experience for the whole body. The backs are comprised of horizontal slats, creating an airy look that pairs well with the upholstered, removable cushions.

    The overall model beautifully speaks of the zeitgeist of the 1960’s Scandinavia, a period characterized by a spirit of experimentation and a departure from traditional norms towards modernism. Evidently, this set embodies the essence of mid-century modern design, marked by its commitment to simplicity, functionality, and a bold departure from the ornate styles of the past.
