Description
Gebrüder Cosack (Gecos), was a lighting company from Neheim-Hüsten, Germany founded in 1848. The company no longer exists, making remaining pieces hard to come by. Karl Heinz Kinsky was one of the company’s best known designers, and together they created a range of lamps with a crows foot base in varying sizes. The stunning floor lamp is attributed to this collaboration.
The lamp’s arched, metal stem creates a sleek, minimalist silhouette that can anchor any room with a sense of quiet refinement. The sculptural, bent design consists of a black metal body that is embellished with a pointed capping of the shade, where textures change and the metal structure transforms into the fabric-covered cone. With its darkly coloured structure, the design results in an eye-catching look, especially thanks to the sharp contrast the light fabric lampshade provides. Its shape allows the light to escape in a larger, diffused circle that can be switched on with the discretely-placed button on the upper part of the conical shade. The gracefully arched structure is supported by the distinctive crowfoot-shaped base, standing on three perfectly balanced points, two of which bow forwards to carry the backwards-bending weight of the lamp’s arch.
Today, mid-century lighting fixtures have become more than sources of illumination - they have emerged as functional art pieces that engage with the viewer. This floor lamp emits an inviting, ambient light perfect for cosy living spaces, as well as more formal settings, with all of its details speaking to the merits of premium industrial craftsmanship.
