11541 AN EXQUISITE SET OF FOUR GOUACHE, WATERCOLOR AND GILT HIGHLIGHTED SEASCAPES ATTRIBUTED TO THOMAS ROBINS THE ELDER (1716 – 1770) English. Circa 1740. Measurements: Framed: Width: 17 1/2″ (44.4 cm); Height: 14″ (35.5 cm). Sight Size: Width: 15 1/4″ (38.7 cm); Height: 11 1/2″ (29.2 cm).
Research
Gouache and watercolor with gilt highlighting on paper. Each seascape within a “frame” of stylized chrysanthemums in gold leaf set against a blue ground, along with rocaille and chinoiserie inner border. Each rebacked and restored in small areas.
