Description
Rare and stylish pair of Chiavari armchairs produced by the renewed cabinetmaker Guido Chiappe in the early 1960s.
This model has been specifically designed for the hall of the Continental Hotel in Santa Margherita Ligure (Genoa) for a total production of around 50 armchairs (**).
Chairs are in excellent condition: their beech frames have been newly refinished respecting the original aniline black paint and seats have been recently hand caned by our internal restoration atelier using the ancient and typical Chiavari's technique.
With a powerful but elegant and clean design they can fit both classic ambients and modern ones.
Chiavari chairs (Chiavarine) have a 200 years long history and since the beginning of their production they have evolved in several models being alwais recognisable for a distinctive frame structure which allow them to be one of the lightest chair in the world without compromising their sturdiness and stability.
Between the 1930 and 1960s they have been one of the first choice of some of the most renowned Italian architects and interior designers when they had to select a dining chair able to fit their refined taste. Names of the likes as Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Ignazio Gardella, Piero Bottoni, Gio Ponti, Azucena, Gianfranco Frattini have often used Chiavari chairs in their projects.
