Description
Suspension chandelier in metal and Lucite, designed by Gio Ponti, model Greson 2, produced by Greco in the 1950s. This pendant light embodies a minimalist design that merges two materials emblematic of 1950s Italian design. The Greson model, conceived by Gio Ponti for Greco, features a black-painted metal frame paired with a white Perspex diffuser. Perspex, a material extensively utilized during a period of innovation, captivated designers with its versatility. It enabled the creation of novel shapes while offering excellent optical transparency.
This chandelier exhibits distinctiveness through its sequence of angular forms, imparting a dynamic tension characteristic of Ponti's designs. Ponti, an architect with a comprehensive vision, skillfully articulated his aesthetic in both everyday objects and large-scale architectural projects. His ability to balance form and function is evident in the Greson 2 model. The use of black-painted metal and white Perspex not only reflects the material experimentation of the era but also enhances the structural and visual harmony of the piece.
The chandelier is an original from the 1950s, maintaining its period integrity and functionality. Dimensions: 60 x 45 cm. -
