Description
Eero Saarinen’s Pedestal Collection for Knoll is one of the most iconic designs in furniture history. Commonly referred to as the "Tulip" collection, Saarinen's goal was to eliminate the visual clutter caused by the multiple legs of traditional furniture in the 1950s. His innovative solution was a single "Pedestal" base, a sleek, single-leg structure that met the floor with an elegance never before seen in furniture design. This revolutionary approach gained widespread popularity, expanding the collection to include chairs, dining tables, and, as seen here, side tables.
This particular piece is a very early 16-inch variation of the Pedestal Side Table, most likely produced in the 1950's. Saarinen's mastery of proportion is evident in this design, with the 16-inch diameter top offering a petite yet functional surface. Whether placed beside an accent or lounge chair, in front of a sofa, or used as a stand for displaying art, this table is a versatile design essential for any home. The table features a satin white laminate top and a painted cast aluminum base, providing a clean and timeless aesthetic. This table is structurally in excellent condition but does show signs of age and wear, including paint loss around the top edge and hairline cracks on the painted base. We have chosen to preserve the table's original finish as a tribute to its history and character. However, refinishing is available upon request. Please contact us for more details if you'd like to explore this option. -
