Description
Early 18th Century Antique Silkwork Embroidery Picture. The embroidery is worked in silk on linen ground, in tent stitch or petit point. Colours pinks, blues, cream, gold, greens and browns. Pictorial scene depicts the biblical scene of Abraham and Sarah being visited by three angels. Abraham is resting near the entrance of his tent when three visitors, later revealed as divine messengers, appear. Abraham warmly welcomes them, offering hospitality by preparing a meal with the help of Sarah. During their visit, one of the angels announces that Sarah will bear a son within a year. Framed in an old black and gold wooden frame with glass. Mounting: The embroidery is loose mounted onto card. Frame backed with wood and sealed with tape. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.

Origin: England Period: 18th Century Condition: Good. Good. Tack holes around the other edges from a previous mounting. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. Light stain in two places. Slight thinning of the stitching in places, mainly the figures hair.
