Description
The Satelite 1 sconce is part of a series of 7 sconces by the artist Thierry Jeannot, entirely made of plastic bottle waste from the streets of Mexico City. There are various shapes and sizes available and we work on bespoke pieces.
SCONCES: SIZES here: H: 45-65 cm x W: 14-17 cm D: 9 cm // H: 17.71” - 25.59” x W: 5.51” - 6.69” x D: 3.54”
The piece is a result of Jeannot’s over 25 year-long research into the PET material and its characters and origins within the trash system in Mexico City. The artist achieves a true transformation of those specimens of plastic into a luxury symbol, which is a crystal Chandelier.
His work transfers waste into luxury and conveys the inherent message that waste is a luxury. Thierry's work also has a social aspect. He incorporates groups of disadvantaged people within Mexico City by teaching them to find the right type of bottles, rescue them from trash, and involve them in various aspects of the construction process. This work has changed many lives and given new hope. As such the pieces are stunning, sparkling light objects and a powerful testimony to life and beauty. -
