Description
Featuring French designer, Charles Dudouyt’s signature style, these stools meld seamlessly with any style thanks to their elegant sense of lavishness. As a major figure in early 20th-century French design, Dudouyt was known for his ability to combine France’s design aesthetic elaborate classicism and more modernist sensibility. The wooden form is elemental, enhanced by the sculptural carvings.
Dudouyt favoured simple, geometric forms and often incorporated decorative elements, such as inlaid marquetry or carved details. This pair is beautifully crafted from exquisite oak and woven rush. While mid-century design is generally restrained, woodworking often showed off the skills of the craftsman. The seats of this pair are made of durable woven rush, with a light colour. The pairing of the two natural materials combined with the beautiful decorative carvings, are all features that make these stools visually arresting. At the heart of the stools’ charm lies its exquisite carved details and impeccable quality. Each leg is skilfully carved to form a turned look, showcasing the craftsmanship and attention to detail of the maker. The woodworking employed in crafting these stools result in sturdy yet lightweight structures, capable of withstanding the test of time while retaining their graceful silhouettes.
Designers define stools as jewels and statements in a space, and taking practicality into account, these stools are the perfect addition of visual interest to any space. While stools vary in appearance and use, those produced in the mid-century are the highest regarded in terms of design and quality.
