A pair of starkly dramatic 1920s French Modernist pedestals in hand-wrought iron by Edgar Brandt.

Each pedestal has a square, stepped base supporting a central column, with each face decorated with a strip of iron worked with chiselled, horizontal lines. The effect is an irregular geometric motif popular among certain French ironwork designers, who drew inspiration from African art, which had become a well-established influence in Parisian culture by this time.
