Fulham Pottery Vase by W.J. Marriner for Constance Spry, Art Deco 1930s

$ 7,250
  • Description
    This broad twin-handled mantle vase by Fulham Pottery is in the classic elongated boat shape innovated by Constance Spry, with a beautiful contrast between the practical glazed interior and the desirable, raw, unglazed exterior. Designed by Fulham’s pottery manager William John Marriner, this vase follows the playfully proportioned style which Spry introduced, an artist’s take on classical forms, but with the restrained simplicity of someone who understood the press-moulding method and the Devon earthenware clay used better than anyone.
