William (Billy) Haines — Pair of Swivel Stools, c. 1955
Upholstery, painted wood
Dimensions: 12 h × 21 dia in (30 × 53 cm)
A sophisticated pair of low swivel stools by legendary Hollywood designer William Haines, circa 1955. The bases are crafted from painted wood and topped with updated upholstery in a soft cotton velvet. The circular seats rest on low-profile, rounded bases, highlighting Haines' signature blend of glamour and functionality.
A similar design is illustrated in Class Act: William Haines Legendary Hollywood Decorator by Peter Schifando and Jean H. Mathison, pg. 137.
Condition report:
Very good condition. Upholstery has been reupholstered in cotton velvet. Bases show evidence of prior repainting. Both stools present well overall. -
