Description
Vintage Italian Modernist Vela Alta ("Tall Sail") lounge chair designed in the 1970s by Giovanni Offredi for Saporiti.
Composed of a durable, metal, upholstered frame with exposed chrome supports, and a subframe/base of black molded plastic. Large scale, sculptural chair offering optimal comfort and a spacious seat without compromising style. The 'tall sail' undulating seat back offers flexibility while remaining structurally supportive.
Features the original striped velvet upholstery in olive green, blue, and blue-green. (Close-ups make the fabric appear silver due to the natural light - main color of the velvet is a blue/green or teal).
Velvet has been steam cleaned, but wear remains (fading, spotting soiling to arm and seat, fabric losses to the two corners of the base, general wear). Can be used as is with aforementioned issues, though reupholstery is highly recommended.
The black molded plastic base shows a central crack, which is neither visible when the chair is upright nor affects the piece's stability.
Retains the "Saporiti" fabric label under seat cushion and is branded "Saporiti Italia Vela Alta" to the molded plastic underside.
Sourced in Rome, Italy.
See other listings for the corresponding two and three-seat sofas (same upholstery and manufacturer, different designer).
