Description
This rare wall mirror was produced in the Netherlands in the 1930s. The shape, material, and craftsmanship of the piece are exemplary of the Amsterdam School movement. Originating in the Dutch capital in the 1920s, this unique style is rooted in Expressionist architecture and draws elements from Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) and Art Deco aesthetics.
The striking design is defined by the decorative trefoil shape of the frame and the triangular shape of the mirror. The frame is made of solid, stained oak wood, showcasing a beautiful grain, with rounded, carved shapes on each side. Each corner is adorned with a decorative molding detail in contrasting, darker macassar ebony wood, typical of the Amsterdam School style. The triangular mirror is set within the frame, featuring a beveled edge detail on each side.
The mirror is in good, completely original condition. The wood shows minor wear and marks consistent with age and use, while the mirror glass exhibits minimal wear and patina, also consistent with age and use. -
