Description
Italian furniture from the mid-century era is defined by functionality, an elegant design aesthetic, perfect execution, and exclusivity. The period’s seating models, including this pair of armchairs, were created to highlight the spirit of rebirth of post-war furniture characterised by clean lines and a free spirit.
The pair revolves around the use of high-quality materials, comfort and the mastery of Italian cabinetmakers. The design is focused on the aesthetics of modernism, whilst employing the precise technique and material familiarity of the highly-skilled Italian craftsmen. The striking look of these pieces is the result of a brilliant pairing of materials; the solid wood structures’ smooth lines stand out against the textural, organic sheepskin while also accentuating the individuality of the upholstery. The contrast of materials is not just textural, but chromatic too. The soft white fibres of the feathery, cloud-like sheepskin drape beautifully over these chairs, creating visual dynamism and making the brown wood stand out. The armrests have an ergonomic shape, with perfectly sculpted curves to accommodate the sitter. The desire to keep lightness at the core of the design is visible, especially when looking at the open armrests and thin feet, which balance the full bodies.
Mid-century modern remains one of the most appreciated interior styles, as the furniture pieces from this period are uncomplicated and as functional and comfortable as they are timeless. This pair represents the artistry of designers who took natural materials and perfected them into era-defining pieces.
