Description
Wall-mounted lighting has been represented throughout history a practical solution for illuminating interiors without occupying floor or table space. By the mid-20th century, it took on a modern design, where simplicity and material became the primary focus. In Europe designers began reducing sconces back to their essential components: light source, mount, and minimal structure, resulting in fixtures that were both sleek and highly intentional.
Traditionally made from materials like brass for its reflective qualities, sconces provide ambient lighting while remaining visually unobtrusive. This set of three wall fixtures exemplifies the minimalist approach. Each piece is composed of a small, circular wall plate with a small cylindrical base, that supports the light bulb. The design is almost elemental, focusing on pure geometry rather than decorative elaboration. The brass surface plays a crucial role, catching and reflecting light to create dynamism. Finally, the light bulbs echo the golden colour of their supports, with their shiny tops. When arranged in a row, the repetition of form introduces rhythm and a sense of continuity across the wall surface. The scale is deliberately modest, allowing the lights to be undisruptive in a room.
What makes these fixtures particularly interesting is their simplicity. They are less like traditional lamps and more like points of light within a composition, capable of shaping a space through placement rather than size. This opens up a range of formations and sculptural groupings in living areas. The design invites flexibility, encouraging the user to think of lighting as part of the spatial composition rather than as an isolated object.
