Early 18th Century Bolognese Walnut Sideboard
-
Description
A rare and handsome Bolognese sideboard from the early 18th century, crafted in solid walnut with a warm, aged patina that highlights the wood’s natural grain and depth. This substantial piece features two paneled doors with decorative geometric insets and bold turned roundels, framed by carved pilasters and crowned with a molded dentil cornice. The architectural design reflects the Baroque influence typical of northern Italian furniture of the period, yet retains a sense of rustic elegance.
The interior reveals ample storage with two full-length shelves, making it both practical and visually striking. The solid plank back, original iron hinges, and beautifully worn interior all speak to the authenticity and craftsmanship of the era. Raised on bracket feet, the piece is well-balanced and sturdy.
Originating from Bologna, this sideboard is ideal for use in a dining room, hallway, or as a statement piece in a more eclectic or rustic interior. A fine example of Italian provincial furniture with strong character and historical presence.
