Wherever You Look You See The Chrysler Building: Weehawken Palisade

$ 6,500
  • Description
    A foreground stone wall structure of a repeating vertical shapes alternating with openings is mimicked by the similar but more majestic vertical shapes of the Mid-Town Manhattan skyline. It was photographed early in the morning, so the backlit building became silhouetted against a lighter sky. That contrast of light against dark is also seen in the stone wall, set against a highlighted Hudson River. The image was taken in 1975, and the stone wall is no longer there. Since then, the skyline has changed as well. In the center of the composition, we see the Chrysler Building's distinctive sleek spire rise and point to the sky. Mitchell Funk's photograph is a visual pun and a historical document of Manhattan.
    The image is part of a new epic exhibition, Mitchell Funk Photographs The Chrysler Building for 50 Years.
    The Chrysler Building is one of the most photographed buildings in the world. Yet Mitchell Funk's photographs of it are anything but a tourist snapshot. For 50 years, Funk has been celebrating and rediscovering it visually in a way that exemplifies the innovative spirit of its creators.
    The work is signed dated and numbered 3/15 lower right recto, with other sizes available, and it's unframed and printed later. Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper
