Antique Italian painting from the 17th century, Saint Francis of Assisi
-
Description
Magnificent religious painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas painting depicting a wonderful Saint Francis of Assisi, attributable to the Baroque painter Giovanni Battista Beinaschi (the artwork is currently not accompanied by an expertise, but it is possible to obtain it upon payment of the relevant additional costs). Born in Fossano in Piedmont, he worked mainly between Rome and Naples and was particularly influenced by the work of Giovanni Lanfranco. The luminous rendering and the skillful use of the chiaroscuro technique, the expressive intensity of the face and the plasticity of the hands would be consistent with Beinaschi's aesthetics in his mature years after moving to Naples. The Saint is captured in the moment of ecstasy while he is illuminated by a grazing light that sculpts the face and hands, marked by the stigmata. 20th century frame in carved, gilded and lacquered wood, with some signs of aging. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and recoloring in small spots. Overall in good condition. Interior size H 84.5 x W 64.5 cm.
