Antique Flemish painting from the 18th century, Bacchanal
-
Description
Splendid Flemish painting from the first half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a magnificent game of cherubs that reveals itself, for some details, as a refined allegory of a bacchanal. In fact, at the center of the composition we see a putto carried in triumph crowned with ivy in the guise of Bacchus. In the foreground we find a large barrel while in the distance a putto rides a goat, an animal notoriously linked to the cult of Dionysus. Mythological painting of notable pictorial quality, with a playful atmosphere and rich in minute details. 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, with several missing parts (see photo). Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and repainting of the color in small spots. Overall in good state of conservation. Interior size H 41.5 x W 64 cm.
