Description
This fabulous and unique example of high style Art Deco design was produced in 1925, the same year that Paris hosted the legendary Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes (International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts), which later gave the Art Deco style its name. The two cartouches, one on either side, feature the kind of ripe landscapes and plant forms that were some of the hallmarks of the style, all executed in a stunning palette of cobalt blue, pale pink and and ivory. The artist was Adrien-Auguste Leduc, one of Sèvres' leading artists, who sometimes undertook his own designs, as here, and sometimes executed the designs of other artists such as Jean Beaumont. The vase is fully marked on the bottom with the artist's signature and date.
