Description
Beautiful composition of three egrets wading amongst the cat-tail marshes, under a sky of silver leaf flakes. Mineral pigments and silver leaf on paper with dark brown lacquer trim. Signature and seal read: Matsuo Toshio. Original storage box. Notes about the artist: Toshio Matsuo(1926-2016) was born in Nagasaki Prefecture. In 1949 he was accepted into the 34th Restored Inten Exhibition for the first time. In 1971 he was appointed to the Dojin of the Inten. In 1979 he was awarded The 35th Japan Art Academy Prize and in 1994 he became a member of The Japan Art Academy. Toshio Matsuo passed away at the age of 90 in 2016. Two of Toshio’s favorite painting subjects were plants and animals. One of his paintings is on display at the MOMAT (Museum of Modern Art,Tokyo)
