Description
Pair of large French Rococo style glass and gilt bronze candelabra
French, 20th Century
Height 160cm, width 78cm, depth 73cm
This striking pair of 20th century French candelabra showcases exceptional craftsmanship and a refined interpretation of the Rococo aesthetic, a decorative style that flourished during the reign of Louis XV.
The design centres around clear, baluster-shaped glass vases that pair gracefully with ornate gilt bronze (ormolu) embellishments. The bodies, detailed with fluted textures, are adorned with an array of finely cast mounts that exemplify the opulence and movement typical of Rococo artistry.
Each piece features nine candle branches crafted in gilt bronze, elegantly shaped as budding blossoms. These branches include delicately formed drip pans and extend outward on scrolling arms styled after acanthus leaves, all securely affixed to the glass shafts. Additional decorative motifs include naturalistic details - such as oak leaves, masks, and C-scrolls - offering depth and visual richness.
The bases are set on elaborately decorated ormolu stands, loosely square in shape. These mounts include dolphin-form feet, intricate shell motifs, and surrounding foliage,
adding to the visual grandeur.
An ideal statement piece for refined interiors, this large pair of decorative candelabra blends timeless French style with bold ornamental appeal. -
