Description
Pair of 18th-century continental silvered wood lamps
Continental, 18th Century
Lamps: Height 162cm, width 33cm, depth 31cm
Shades: Height 44cm, diameter 56cm
This pair of Baroque Revival floor lamps showcases both superb craftsmanship and decorative grandeur. Originally crafted as torcheres in the 18th century, this pair was later adapted into lamps.
The sculptural bases are richly silvered and deeply carved, featuring exuberant scrollwork, shell motifs, and flowing acanthus leaves that speak to the theatrical elegance of the Baroque aesthetic. Raised on graceful cabriole legs, each lamp has a commanding presence, its intricate detailing brought to life by the luminous silvered finish.
The artistry of these pieces goes far beyond utility. They are designed as striking decorative objects, evoking the opulence of 17th- and 18th-century interiors, where lighting fixtures were both functional and ornamental centrepieces.
Each lamp is crowned with a flared cream silk shade, edged in a subtle brown ribbon. These soft, neutral tones balance the visual richness of the bases, introducing a refined contrast that allows the elaborate carving to shine without overwhelming the eye.
Ideal for sophisticated interiors, these lamps bring a sense of historical grandeur and timeless style to any space, combining dramatic design with elegant restraint. -
