Rare silver centerpiece by Arrigo Finzi, Italy c. 1933, mounted with Lapiz Lazuli Cabuchons, Hallmarked and stamped Sant Elia

Arrigo Finzi (1890-1973) ranks amongst the most important Italian silversmiths of the early 20th Century, and was the only silversmith whose work would be selected for inclusion in the seminal Italy at Work: Her Renaissance in Design Today (1950-1953) exhibition in the US.

Finzi first met the visionary Futurist architect Antonio Sant' Elia in 1909, whereupon a plan was established to produce a line of modern silver according to Sant' Elia's radical designs. Due to the architect's tragic death in the first world war, the project never came to fruition, but upon founding his company in 1919, Finzi's earliest pieces would be inspired by the work of his friend Sant' Elia. Finzi went on to trademark the name and launch the highly successful Nova Argentaria series under the Sant' Elia brand in 1933
