Great 17th century Italian painting, countryside landscape with figures
-
Description
Antique Italian painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a wonderful bucolic landscape with a village, common people and grazing animals. With a balanced use of perspective planes we find a peasant family in the foreground and a loaded mule led by a traveler across the bridge. On the right we see a large tree that, thanks to the typical repoussoir mechanism, guides our gaze towards a splendid village. The warm and crepuscular colours dominate the composition in a play of light and dark of refined mastery. Painting of remarkable pictorial quality that recalls the great tradition of classical Italian and Flemish landscape painting of the 17th century. 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and repainting in some places. Overall in good condition. Interior size H 72.5 x W 98.5 cm.
