A wonderful oil on canvas portrait of a brindle-coat racing greyhound signed and dated lower left "J. Thompson 1838" and again to the reverse ["The Sultan" Winner of the "All England Cup", J. Thompson 1838.] presented in a fine quality giltwood frame of recent manufacture. Canvas measures 20" x 16".
The "All England Cup" was a coursing competition event involving the hunting of hares with greyhounds. -
