Japanned Lacquered Coffee Table
-
Description
A sleek black lacquer coffee table with Japanese lakeside scenes of cranes and bamboo in gold, with two sections of Japanese script, the inset panels mounted on a rectangular top over a base with a deep concave edge apron and standing on square section legs ending in inward spade feet. Likely a bespoke piece by Mallett, a noted London antiques dealer, who made such tables from rare antique oriental panels. An elegant, restrained table that would fit a modern or antique interior.
