Description
Full Cup Golden (2025) A Large Abstract Painting by Lowell Boyers
Full Cup Golden is a striking, immersive vertical painting by New York-based artist Lowell Boyers. In this 2025 work, a vivid burst of ochre, deep pinks, and mauves blooms from the center, unfolding across an watery blue-green and inky black backround. The palette conjures a powerful atmosphere—suggesting the mysterious depth of an underwater garden, the stillness of a forest pierced by sunlight, or the radiance of a cosmic event. The composition is layered and fluid, alive with rhythmic motion and chromatic nuance. There’s a sense of both expansion and intimacy—a balance between wild natural energy and painterly control. It radiates a presence that transforms its surroundings, grounding the space with color, movement, and emotional clarity.
Boyers, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and Yale School of Art, works with a conceptual rigor that informs every gesture. He sees raw canvas as a metaphor for the receptive mind: empty, infinite, and unformed until shaped by perception. “Before perception,” he writes, “the mind is a futile but empty slate that we fill and dissipate all phenomena into and onto.” His process echoes this philosophy—intuitive, calligraphic, and immediate—yielding compositions that pulse with life and layered intention.
Finished with painted edges that extend the visual field beyond the face of the canvas, "Full Cup Golden" offers a seamless and refined presentation. The work invites reflection, inviting the viewer into a moment of stillness animated by color and gesture. With its lush palette and atmospheric presence, Full Cup Golden brings a sense of harmony, vitality, and poetic richness into any space. It is a painting that doesn’t merely adorn a wall—it alters the experience of the room, offering depth, imagination, and quiet intensity.
