Description
Pair of Art Deco Machine Age Copper Torchiere Floor Lamps, circa 1935
This striking pair of Art Deco torchiere floor lamps dates to around 1935 and showcases the clean geometry and industrial elegance characteristic of the Machine Age. Constructed entirely in copper-plated metal, these lamps are notable for their warm, rich patina, a rare finish that enhances their sculptural presence and sets them apart from the more commonly seen bronze or chrome examples of the era.
Each lamp features a streamlined bowl-shaped uplight with a flared trumpet neck rising from a slender, vertical shaft. The stepped round base is weighted for stability and trimmed with a subtle silvered band that plays beautifully against the copper tones. The overall silhouette emphasizes verticality and symmetry, hallmarks of American Art Deco design during this period, with subtle details that echo the aesthetics of both the skyscraper movement and industrial modernism.
These lamps remain in excellent original condition, with the copper plating intact and lightly aged to a soft, glowing patina-finish. The pair has been rewired and functions perfectly, casting a warm, diffuse ambient light ideal for living rooms, libraries, or stylish commercial interiors.
