The Pigeon and The Chrysler Building
-
Description
Perched upon a New York City street sign, a orange-eyed pigeon is captured in a moment of deep contemplation. Behind him rises the Art Deco facade of the Chrysler Building and frames the bird's silhouette. In this unexpected work, Photographer Mitchell Funk juxtaposes objects of small and large scale in a unified composition. Funk documents the moment as he pushes the image toward abstraction.
The image is part of a new epic exhibition, Mitchell Funk Photographs The Chrysler Building for 50 Years.
The Chrysler Building is one of the most photographed buildings in the world. Yet Mitchell Funk's photographs of it are anything but a tourist snapshot. For over 50 years, Funk has been celebrating and rediscovering it visually in a way that exemplifies the innovative spirit of its creators.
