Painting of Birds In a Landscape by Jacob Bogdani (1658-1724)

$ 5,200
  • Description
    Colorful and vibrant oil on canvas painting attributed to Jacob Bogdani (1658-1724), an exotic depiction of a macaw perched on a classical column holding a fruit with a white cockatoo nearby eating a grape and another macaw in flight, in a landscape with grapes, peaches, plums, melon and apples. The painting is unframed.

    Bogdani, born in Hungary but moved to London in 1688, was known for his still life and bird paintings. In London he found success at the court of Queen Anne and several of his paintings became part of the Royal Collection. One of his chief patrons was Admiral George Churchill, brother of the Duke of Marlborough, whose famous aviary at Windsor Park may have supplied subjects for some of his paintings.
