-
Description
A splendid Italian painting from the mid-18th century. Oil on canvas, first canvas, painting depicting a lively square where an antique ball game, a precursor to ball with bracelet, or elastic ball, is being played. This marvelous genre scene is set in an urban setting, animated by a market and the typical architecture of Northern Italian cities.
The painting is attributed to the circle of Giovanni Michele Graneri (Turin 1708/1762), a renowned artist and master of market scenes and Turin's urban theaters populated by picturesque figures. (The painting is not currently accompanied by an expert opinion, but one can be requested upon payment of the relevant additional costs.)
A rare painting in terms of subject matter and evocative quality, capable of bringing the authentic atmosphere of Italian folk life into any home. The lively and theatrical composition combines history, folklore, and art, making it ideal for collectors of genre paintings. 20th-century carved and gilded wooden frame, beautifully decorated, with some signs of aging. The artwork has already been restored, with some minor discoloration, but is in overall good condition. Internal dimensions: H 58 x W 88.5 cm. - More Information
