Antique Neoclassical Louis XVI Gilt Bronze / Malachite Mantel Clock
-
Description
A striking example of mid-19th century French craftsmanship, this Louis XVI-style mantel clock is a perfect blend of classical elegance and refined detail. The architectural case is designed in the form of a temple, featuring five fluted Corinthian columns, a finely cast bird, and a cherub figure perched at the top—an embodiment of neoclassical symbolism and charm.
The clock is richly adorned with gilt bronze mounts and veneered in luxurious malachite, enhancing its decorative appeal. At the center, a hand-painted porcelain dial displays Arabic numerals and gilt hands, protected behind a hinged glass cover. It houses a high-quality brass 8-day time and strike movement, signed by the renowned French maker S. Marti et Cie
Elegant and timeless, this piece is not only a remarkable collector’s item but also a captivating conversation piece that complements both traditional and contemporary interiors. It stands about 22 inches high by 8 inches wide. In excellent antique condition with minor wear consistent with age and use. Versatile and decorative—suitable for mantels, shelves, or consoles; harmonizes beautifully with any décor. -
